Suitability

Who this is for

This is a renal service first and a weight service second. It exists for adults whose kidney function means a standard weight-loss clinic is not appropriate.

CKD

Chronic kidney disease, not on dialysis

Reduced kidney function changes how weight loss should be monitored. Gastrointestinal side effects can cause dehydration and a temporary drop in kidney function, so creatinine is tracked alongside your weight throughout treatment.

HD

Haemodialysis

Recorded weight reflects both tissue mass and fluid status. Weighing at a consistent point in your dialysis cycle is what makes a trend line meaningful, and fluid balance is discussed at each review.

PD

Peritoneal dialysis

Dwell volume and glucose absorption both affect recorded weight and appetite. Treatment is reviewed with your PD regime in mind, not in isolation.

Kidney transplant recipients

Weight gain after transplant is common and matters for graft function. Treatment is reviewed alongside your immunosuppression and transplant-team follow-up, never in isolation from it.

Suitability is decided in person

No treatment decision is made from a web form. Eligibility is assessed at your face-to-face consultation, and some people will be advised that GLP-1 treatment is not appropriate for them.
