Adjusting dialysis prescriptions during GLP-1 weight loss
Why your dialysis needs change as you lose weight and how we coordinate with your unit.

Overview
Losing weight is a primary goal for many dialysis patients, but it requires careful coordination with your dialysis unit to adjust your treatment prescription.
Why adjustments are needed
1. Dry Weight Reduction: As you lose fat, your dry weight must be reduced to prevent fluid overload.
2. Ultrafiltration Rate: Lower body weights may require different fluid removal rates to avoid hypotension (low blood pressure).
3. Urea Clearance (Kt/V): Your dialysis dose is often calculated based on body size; if you lose significant weight, your time on the machine or pump speed may need adjustment.
Our Role
The Kidney Weight Clinic provides reports for your NHS or private dialysis consultant to ensure your dry weight is adjusted in lockstep with your weight loss.
